Prince Harry Races Olympic Swimmer In Boozy Pool Party

Good old Prince Harry. It looks as though he’s finally back to his partying ways after being photographed racing Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte during a “boozy” pool party in Las Vegas over the weekend, according to the New York Daily News. The Prince jumped into the water around 3am whilst still wearing his jeans and cleared a path in the Wynn Hotel’s Nightclub pool for the race.

A bevvy of bikini clad women watched as Lochte blasted into a quick lead, destroying Harry, and raising his arms in victory. He had a similar Olympic run-in with sprinter Usain Bolt last March, when he raced him over 100m at the University of West Indies. Ryan Lochte – who is courting numerous reality television offers following his London 2012 success – attended the Sin City party with his team-mate Cullen Jones, after they had hit the Venetian and Azure. Before the late night swim, Harry has donned a pair of red swimming trunks and a fedora hat while lounging with friends at Mgm Grand’s West Republic pool party, hosted by superstar singer Jennifer Lopez.

Roger Ebert’s Review of WHY STOP NOW (Armian Pictures/Ron Nyswaner)

I can imagine this material being hurtled through at breakneck speed. Not here. The co-writers and directors, Philip Dorling and Ron Nyswaner, have a good feeling for characters and pacing. The drug dealers, for example, aren’t rubber-stamp movie “drug dealers” but plausible people with real lives and feelings. Time is given and attention paid to the construction of scenes, so that the humor grows from the situations and doesn’t pound us on the head. Consider how the daughter’s birthday party is handled, and the grace with which Penny dances with the guy who likes her and feels flattered.

Missy Franklin Says College-Pro Decision Is Harder

LONDON — Missy Franklin is still leaning toward college over cash. For now, anyway.

A winner of four gold medals in swimming at the London Olympics, the 17-year-old from Colorado said Saturday that she’s still leaning toward entering college in 2013 – while acknowledging that her decision has gotten tougher after seeing what opportunities are out there for those who forgo their amateur eligibility and turn professional.

“For right now, I still believe that college is what’s going to make me the happiest girl,” Franklin said at a U.S. Olympic Committee news conference to start wrapping up the London Games, which close on Sunday. “I know what my parents and my friends and my teammates and my coaches want. But we’ll definitely have to sit down and talk about that.”

By turning pro, Franklin would be eligible to grab endorsement deals that could be worth millions, but would cost her the chance of swimming at the collegiate level. She’s been asked about her future often in London, especially after winning five medals – golds in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke events, relay golds in the 4×100-meter medley and 4×200-meter freestyle, and a bronze in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay.

Of the 10,500 or so athletes at the London Games, only one by Saturday had claimed more medals than Franklin: Michael Phelps won six. Not bad company.
“I think that my experience here has done two very different things for my decision,” Franklin said. “I think it’s made my decision a lot more difficult because I’ve been able to see the benefits and everything and how people get these sponsorships and what it’s like for them and how much fun they’re having and seeing those and kind of wanting that, wanting to be a part of it and having it be so hard to turn it down.”

Franklin is a member of the class of 2013 at Regis Jesuit High in Aurora, Colo., where the school has a web page set up for all things Missy, things like pictures and stories and message-board offerings. It’s probably not an overstatement to say every college swimming program in the country would love to see her with them, and Franklin already has recruiting trips planned to see California, Georgia and Southern California.

She likened the Olympic experience – and being part of Team USA – to what she thinks being part of College Team TBA might be.

“It’s also helped me in being part of such an incredible team and knowing that this is what it’s all about for me,” Franklin said. “And being a part of that team and being on the closest team I’ve ever been on and knowing that’s exactly what college is going to be like.”

Decision matters will have to wait at least a few more days.

Franklin has enjoyed being a spectator in London, now that her Olympic competition schedule has been done for a few days. On Sunday night, she will march with many U.S. athletes in the closing ceremony of the London Games, saying that was particularly important to her because she had to forgo a chance to walk into the opening ceremony due to her racing schedule.

Soon enough, Franklin will gather the family for a chat to go over everything.

“I still have to have a talk with my parents and sit down and definitely go over the options,” Franklin said. “But it’s incredible to know that I have a support system that will be honest with me and will tell me, ‘You know what, you could be doing this, you could be doing this,’ and kind of give me the advantages and consequences – because there are going to be both.”

Ryan Lochte: Is he actually a college student?

Now hear us out. We know that Ryan Lochte is not in college. He is 27! Har har ha ha. However, for a 27-year-old man (and an American hero) he exhibits quite a bit of college-age behavior, leading the editors at HuffPost College to believe that he could actually be a college student if we squint hard enough.

Thus, we present to you (in slideshow form) a chain of evidence proving the fact that Ryan Lochte is – in pseudo fact – in college. This is a pretty intellectual endeavor, so we hope you aren’t flummoxed.

Lives In Communal Housing Where 75% Of Occupants Are Having Sex With One Another

An amazing report on the Olympic village:  “There’s a lot of sex going on,” says women’s soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo, a gold medalist in 2008. How much sex? “I’d say it’s 70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians,” offers world-record-holding swimmer Ryan Lochte, who will be in London for his third Games. “Hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.”

Describes Having Girlfriend During Beijing Olympics As “Big Mistake”

“My last Olympics (in Beijing), I had a girlfriend — big mistake. Now I’m single, so London should be really good. I’m excited.” — Ryan Lochte, also any single college sophomore on the planet reflecting on his/her freshman year and hoping for renewal in the future. Hope springs eternal!

He’s ‘Over” The College Dating Scene

“I’m over the whole college scene,” Lochte told the New York Times. Paradoxically, however, this is what all students actually in college say. Fun fact: Lochte graduated the University of Florida in 2007 but lives in his college town to this day!

Gold Medalist Swimmer: I Cheated (And So Does Everyone Else)

http://olympics.yardbarker.com/blog/olympics/article/gold_medalist_swimmer_i_cheated_so_does_everyone_else/11398090/

If you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t tryin’. So says many a NASCAR driver. Or NFL
coach (just not publicly).

Not surprisingly, we are reminded every four years, you can add Olympic athletes to that list. Swimmer Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa, specifically. Somewhat refreshingly, the gold medal winner told a newspaper in Australia he did indeed slip in a few extra “dolphin kicks” (whip-like motions you see swimmers make after they turn) on his way to a world record in the 100-meter breaststroke Sunday in London.

“If you’re not doing it, you’re falling behind,” the South African told the Sydney Morning Herald. “It’s got to the sort of point where if you’re not doing it you’re … giving yourself a disadvantage so everyone’s pushing the rules and pushing the boundaries, so if you’re not doing it, you’re not trying hard enough.”

Under the rules, breaststroke swimmers are allowed one dolphin kick after they turn. On video, van der Burgh is shown doing three. While it’s pretty clear he violated the rules during Sunday’s event, there is no underwater judge, and officials do not watch that video during the Olympics.

The guy who finished second Sunday is Christian Sprenger, his Australian rival, who van der Burgh said also takes advantage of the situation. Hence the interest of the Australian media.

Two years ago judges were watching footage from an underwater, van der Burgh said. And— surprise— the extra kicks were not an issue.

“It was really awesome because nobody attempted it,” he explained. “Everybody came up clean and we all had peace of mind that nobody was going to try.”

Implementing that technology at the Olympics would be welcome by the gold medalist. But until that happens, don’t expect him to stop taking advantage of the fact nobody who could penalize the swimmers is watching.

“I’m really for it. If they can bring it, it will better the sport. But I’m not willing to lose to someone that is doing it.”

The World in Their Wake: Lochte-Phelps Rivalry Will Continue in London

Phelps versus Lochte is the sport’s version of a perfect wave: two fierce competitors, one with the winningest portfolio and the other with a winsome personality, fighting a turf war with the world bearing witness. Theirs is not a match manufactured for ratings, even though NBC has played it up in its coverage; it is an organic rivalry that is raising interest in their sport.

Shooting of lesbian teen couple leaves Texas town searching for answers

As Americans across the country prepared to take part in a weekend of gay pride celebrations last Friday, Mollie Olgin and her girlfriend Mary Kristene Chapa, gay teenagers in a small Texas town, were gunned down and left for dead in the tall grass of a local park.
Olgin – a 19-year-old who hoped to one day become a psychologist and had just finished her first semester of college – died at the scene. Chapa, who is 18 years old, is currently in intensive care.

Brandon Elizares, Gay Teen, Commits Suicide, Writing ‘I Couldn’t Make It. I Love You Guys’

Brandon Elizares, a 16-year-old from El Paso, Tex., took his own life early this month after being bullied and threatened at school because of his sexuality, KVIA-TV reports.

“My name is Brandon Joseph Elizares and I couldn’t make it,” his suicide note read, according to the station. “I love you guys with all of my heart.”

The El Paso Times reports Elizares committed suicide the day after he received a threatening text from a classmate.

“He worried about everyone else before himself,” his mother, Zachalyn Elizares, told the paper. “He would say, ‘It’s OK, it doesn’t bother me.’ My son had a right to live how he wanted to live.”

Brandon’s mother also said she believed the school did everything they could to control the bullying.
