$1 million attack on Tammy Baldwin fizzles?

Two separate half-million dollar attack ad campaigns targeting Rep. Tammy Baldwin in the Wisconsin Senate race may have produced zip for the special interest groups that launched them.  New polling numbers suggest the presumptive Democratic nominee’s standing in the race has actually improved over the last few weeks.  Baldwin is now tied with two GOP challengers and leads two others, according to the firm Public Policy Polling.

From Losing My First Boyfriend to Homophobia to Empowering LGBT Youth: It Gets Better

High school is a tough time for everyone; we’re all trying to figure out who we are, how to be adults, and what “clique” we fit into. This is especially difficult if you’re also trying to figure out if you’re gay or not.

I knew by freshman year that I was gay, but that entire year was a lie for me. I thought being gay was bad, or wrong, or maybe just a phase, and I knew I could hide it. But the pressure of all the lies was deeply upsetting, so I told my best friend. She proceeded to tell everyone else, too, to spread rumors about me. My lie was over, people knew, and I felt like everyone was staring at me. But at least I still had the support I needed to stay alive: my boyfriend.

5 Tips for Bullied LGBTQ Youth

Jotomaricónmariposapato — just a few of the words I heard other students (and their parents) call me throughout middle school. Unknown to them, I grew up in an authentic Mexican-American family, so I knew the meaning of their words. Each word was a variation of “f*ggot,” and even the way they said it sounded cruel and disgusting; mariposa no longer meant “butterfly” to me.

Regardless of what people thought of me then, I walked from class to class seemingly unscratched; I would walk home hand-in-hand with the girl I claimed to like, only to find myself hours later sitting in my room in confusion — thinking about boys.

We Are The Youth Shares Stories Of LGBT Bullying

The bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth isn’t a new phenomenon. What is new is the number of young people who are willing to speak out about their experiences — and the number of adults and allies who are listening.

We Are the Youth, a photojournalism project sharing the individual stories of LGBT youth, is about the lives of young people who happen to be gay. For many of the youth, they couldn’t accurately share their stories without including the pain of being bullied. Some have been picked on because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Others just because they are perceived as a little outside of the mainstream.
